This page describes how sparknestpro.life ("Quiet Nest") uses cookies and similar browser storage. I keep the language plain because consent only works when people can actually understand what they are agreeing to — decorative banners that ignore clicks are worse than no banner at all.

What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file a site asks your browser to remember. Similar technologies include localStorage, which persists data until cleared. Neither is malware; both are tools that can be used well or poorly. On a personal blog the goal is minimal footprint: remember your consent choice, load maps that orient you to Sengkang and Rivervale, and little else.

Essential
Always active. Includes the consent storage itself — without it the banner would reappear every visit, which would be annoying and would not respect your previous choice. No essential cookie here identifies you by name.
Functional / embedded maps
On Quiet Nest, Google Maps iframes are classified as essential functional content and remain visible whether you Accept all or Reject all optional categories. That is deliberate approach (b): maps are part of how every page grounds the writing in a real neighbourhood, not an optional decoration I can silently swap for a tracker.
When a map loads, Google may set or read its own cookies or use similar technologies under Google's policies. I do not control Google's processing. I use standard embed URLs without an API key to reduce complexity. If you prefer not to interact with Google at all, you may block third-party content in your browser — the page text will still read; only the map frame will fail to render.
Analytics
Off at build date 2026-08-11. The consent panel includes an Analytics toggle so future enabling would require an affirmative choice first. Reject all leaves analytics off. Accept all also keeps analytics off on this build because no analytics script is wired — the toggle exists for forward compatibility and honesty about categories, not to trick you into granting unused permissions.

Consent banner behaviour
On first visit you should see a bottom strip with Accept all, Reject all, and Customise. Choices persist across reload and across a second page in the same browser. Hard refresh should not resurrect the banner within the retention window unless you cleared site data. Customise opens a panel with toggles; Save writes the exact combination you selected. This page's Manage cookies button reopens that panel with your saved state reflected.
How to clear cookies manually
Every major browser includes a settings panel to clear cookies per site or globally. After clearing, you will see the banner again — that is expected. Clearing Google cookies may affect other Google services you use in the same browser; that trade-off belongs to you, not to me.
Relationship to the Privacy notice
Personal data handling beyond cookies — email you send, server logs — is described on Privacy. This page focuses on device-side storage and embed behaviour. Both pages share the same disclaimer: Quiet Nest is one person's blog, not professional advice.
Changes
If I add analytics or optional embeds later, I will update this policy first, bump the last updated date, and ensure the banner reflects new categories before any script runs. Maps will remain disclosed here as essential functional content unless the site structure changes entirely — which I do not plan.
Why maps stay loaded on Reject all
Some sites hide maps until you consent because map providers set their own cookies. I chose a different balance for Quiet Nest: the map is part of the page layout on all thirteen URLs, the way a dateline or author name is part of an article. Reject all still turns off optional analytics and records your choice for six months, but it does not strip the neighbourhood map out from under the text you came to read. If that balance does not suit you, browser-level blocking remains your control — I would rather be explicit here than pretend the map is optional while every template assumes it is present.
